Programs of Gawad Kalinga
Today, 45 houses have been completely built and awarded to family beneficiaries in the Air France KLM Village, thanks to our generous friends and partners who have supported this cause in one way or another. Through this local project, France, the Netherlands and other countries in Europe have opened its doors to Gawad Kalinga. In July last year, French students flew to the Philippines to be immersed for one full month in various programs of GK, including building the houses they supported in the Air France KLM Village. Other groups of students also extended humanitarian service in GK villages.
Since early this year, GK had been promoting its social entrepreneurship program called Center for Social Innovation in various schools, universities and Filipino communities in France, Austria, UK, Italy and the Netherlands. As many as 200 students from France alone have already signed up with GK’s CSI to fulfill their internship in the Philippines.
In 2009, KLM in the Philippines joined Gawad Kalinga in its mission of building communities to end poverty in the country. It was an ambitious response to Air France KLM’s Corporate Social Responsibility statement which states that the Group strives “to contribute to regional development in areas where we operate”. The partnership was sealed during a ground-breaking ceremony in August 2009 to put up a village in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City.
